Sumaiya didn't set out to build a business — she set out to get better at something she loved. What began as henna applied for cousins and neighbours during Eid and wedding season slowly turned into something else entirely: a full calendar of bridal bookings, referred bride to bride, family to family, across Bangalore.

There was no shortcut taken to get here. No design course that taught shape and symmetry overnight, no printed stencil sheets to fall back on when a pattern got difficult. Every hour spent practising on scrap paper, on willing family members, on her own hands, went into building the kind of freehand control that lets her look at a bride's hand and immediately see the design that belongs on it — not a template pulled from somewhere else.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. A henna artist can apply a pattern. A mehendi artist reads the bride first: her outfit, her jewellery, the story she wants her hands to tell on the one day everyone will be looking at them. Sumaiya trained herself to be the second kind, and it's the reason so many of her bookings today come from brides who saw a friend's hands at a wedding and asked for the same artist.
